The year is 2013. It is the beginning of the end.

The government released this picture today over all of the functioning news networks.

So what does this mean?  Obviously birds still exist, but where? And where was this taken?  They said the top scientists were trying to determine the cause of the bird-ocalypse but no conclusions had been reached.

My hypothesis?  A chemical was released into the air causing the birds to drop.  It had to spread quickly.  It then mixed with the water molecules in the air forming chemical rain which fell into bodies of water, killing the fish.  But who knows?

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, step right up and jump on the Apocalypse Bandwagon!

I’ve heard at least three songs today about the end of the world.  Is it weird that I’m fairly amused now by their relevance?

Whatever is happening seems to be coming in waves.  There hasn’t been any sign of impending doom since the fish, but something is looming.

An eerie, thick fog has settled over us tonight.  I’m assuming it’s like this everywhere because this doesn’t seem like a normal fog.  It’s extremely warm for January.  Maybe global warming is a part of our world’s demise.  I have been half-expecting the Earth to start crumbling underneath my feet.

My daily routine has started faltering.  It’s hard to keep a normal pace when you don’t know what is coming next, if anything.  I don’t know what will be destroyed first, the world or my sanity.

Reminds me of something I read by T.S. Eliot one time:

“This is the way the world ends.  Not with a bang but a whimper.”

It seems appropriate.

After the birds were the fish.

December 22, 2012, millions of fish washed up on shores around the world.  They floated to the surface of lakes and ponds, waves pushed them onto beaches.  I even watched as my three goldfish floated to the top of their tank in unison.

Three days passed without an event.  Everyone hoped that it was over.  But it wasn’t.

Christmas Day was when the looting started.  I guess people started freaking out about the end of the world and all.  I’m not sure if it was planned by whatever omnipotent being started this whole thing or if we were just self-fulfilling the prophecy but when the animals started dying, humanity seemed to take their place.

The world is falling apart and nobody knows what to do.

I will say, the one blessing, or maybe it is actually a curse, is that despite the crumbling society around us, we somehow have managed to maintain our methods of communication like news cycles, phone networks, and even the internet.

I think this happened on purpose.  I think we are supposed to be able to watch what is happening to us.

1. Were the events of December 21, 2012 a part of the foreshadowed apocalypse?

2. If so, are we next?

Let me back up, though.  At the beginning of the year, scientists told us nothing was going to happen.  They told us that the Mayans never actually predicted a 2012 doomsday.  Well, they were right and they were wrong.

As “doomsday” approached, society became scared, but never scared enough to stop living their normal lives.  We still went to school and work.  We still went to the doctor, rented movies, ate at restaurants, saved money.  We almost forgot about the prophecy altogether.  But then it happened.

December 21, 2012.  It started with the birds.

It wasn’t noticeable all at once.  A bird would drop here, fly into a window there.  And then massive amounts of them, dropping like flies.  Newscasters blamed it on everything they could think of except the pending apocalypse.

I haven’t seen a bird in 14 days.
